IT STARTED WITH COOPER.
────────────────────────────────────────
Cooper is a Golden Retriever with a genius-level talent for
escaping. Baby gate blocking the stairs? Over it. Pressure-mounted
gate in the kitchen doorway? Knocked clean off the wall. Playpen
panels that promised to be "escape-proof"? Cooper considered that
a personal challenge.
By the time we'd bought our fourth gate in eight months, we had
a hallway full of broken hardware, two dented walls, and a very
proud dog.
We thought: this can't be how it's supposed to be.
THE PROBLEM WITH EVERY GATE WE TRIED
────────────────────────────────────────
We're not pet industry people. We're just dog parents who got
tired of settling for products that look good in product photos
and fall apart in actual homes.
The more gates and playpens we tested, the more we noticed the
same pattern. The options out there fell into three frustrating
camps:
→ Cheap plastic ones that bent, cracked, or tipped over the
first time a determined dog leaned on them
→ "Heavy-duty" metal cages that looked like prison equipment —
fine for a garage, wrong for a living room you actually live in
→ Pretty wooden ones that scratched floors, pinched paws, and
charged $400 for something that wobbled when you touched it
None of them were built by people who'd actually lived with the
problem for more than a weekend. The hinges were flimsy. The
latches were confusing. The panels came loose. And almost none
of them made it clear — before you bought — whether the gate
would actually fit your doorway or hold your specific size of
dog.
So in 2023, we started DogEver.
WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO
────────────────────────────────────────
We design dog gates, playpens, and containment systems that we
use in our own homes. That sounds like marketing copy, but we
mean it literally — every product we sell has been installed,
tested, pushed on, chewed on, and lived with by our team before
it ever reaches you.
We obsess over the details other brands skip:
• Latches a sleep-deprived puppy parent can operate one-handed
at 2 AM
• Panel connections that actually lock — not the "just kind
of click" kind that come apart when your dog leans in
• Hardware rated for the pull force of a full-grown Lab, not
a Chihuahua
• Finishes that look good in a real home — not just a studio
photo
• Clear size guides with specific breed and doorway
measurements, so you don't end up returning something that
was never going to fit
• Floor-safe bases that won't scratch hardwood or tile
If it's not good enough for Cooper — who has personally broken
four gates we'd rather not talk about — it doesn't go up on the
site.
THE TEAM
────────────────────────────────────────
We're a small team based in Dallas, Texas, with manufacturing
and fulfillment partners that help us ship across the US and
beyond. There are 6 of us, and between us, we share custody
of 3 dogs, 2 cats, and one very opinionated parrot named
Biscuit who has escape-proof requirements of her own.
Every email you send lands in an inbox read by a real person —
usually Sarah, our Customer Care Lead, who has personally helped
over 2,000 customers figure out whether our Freestanding Gate
or our Pressure-Mounted Gate is the right call for their home.
We're not a big brand. We don't have a PR team or a warehouse
full of robots. What we have is a commitment to make things
right when they go wrong, answer your questions like humans,
and help you pick the right product the first time.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
────────────────────────────────────────
→ Your home should work for both of you. Containing your dog
safely shouldn't mean living in a obstacle course.
→ A gate is a safety product. It should never fail at the
moment it matters most — when your dog is trying to reach
something dangerous.
→ Installation shouldn't require a toolkit and a YouTube
tutorial. If it takes more than 10 minutes, we've designed
it wrong.
→ Real homes have hardwood, tile, weird doorway widths, and
stairs at awkward angles. Our products are designed for
real homes, not showroom floors.
→ A company is only as good as how it handles its worst day.
If something arrives broken, doesn't fit, or fails after
six months — we fix it, fast, no runaround.
A NOTE ABOUT COOPER
────────────────────────────────────────
He still tries to escape. We've just built better gates.
Our living room currently runs on a DogEver Freestanding Gate
System in Walnut — three connected panels that separate the
kitchen from the dining area while Cooper supervises dinner
from the correct side of the line. It's survived two years,
one toddler, approximately 40 dog-tackle attempts, and being
repeatedly crashed into
by a robot vacuum with poor boundaries.
The walnut finish still looks great. The hinges still work
smoothly. The latch still clicks on the first try.
Cooper has accepted his fate. Mostly.

If you've made it this far, you probably get it. You know what
it's like to love a dog and also want to keep your home
functional, your floors intact, and your stairs un-fallen-down.
You know the weight of picking a product that your dog will
interact with every single day.
We'd love to help.
